В Новгороде разработали высокочистые стекла для оптики и фотоники

Scientists managed to study the behavior of atoms of other transition elements

At the National Research Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (Lobachevsky University), special purity tellurite glasses have been created. They are used for photonics and optics.

A new technology was used to create high-purity glasses. It allowed to purify the initial components from atoms of transition elements and "water."

The obtained samples were investigated using X-ray diffraction analysis to establish the presence of glassy and crystalline phases. The thermal properties of the glasses were established using scanning calorimetry, and transparency in a wide range of wavelengths was characterized by applying glasscopy.

While conducting research within the framework of the Russian Science Foundation project, we managed to achieve a significant reduction in the negative impurity influence of various nature due to the developed method of purifying the initial substances. This made it possible to significantly increase the transparency of the studied glasses in the visible and near-infrared regions of the spectrum.

Scientists also studied the behavior of transition element atoms (iron, nickel, chromium, copper, and others) in the matrix of tellurite glasses. It was possible to obtain new information about their structure and absorption coefficient.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian scientists created ceramics from coal ash from thermal power plants.
