The fire control systems of T-72B3M tanks of the 2022 model received a simplified 1PN96MT-02 thermal imaging gunner sight. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev spoke about the shortcomings of this device in battles in flat terrain.
He noted that the 1PN96MT-02 was installed in tanks instead of the more advanced Sosna-U multi-channel gunner sight based on the Catherine-FC thermal imaging module.
At the same time, the detection range of a "tank/BMP" type target in favorable weather conditions is 2500 - 2700 m, which is sufficient for conducting combat in urban areas and on mixed terrain.
Nevertheless, such parameters are not enough for conducting night tank battles on flat terrain with enemy tanks equipped with modern 3rd generation thermal imaging sights. But this problem is only relevant in the case of a duel situation and in the absence of promising FPV drones from the parties.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian electronic warfare diverted a western GMLRS projectile and saved the Malva self-propelled gun from a strike. As a result, domestic equipment escaped with minor damage.
