Russian T-72 tanks, model years 1979/80, have received additional sets of advanced improvised protection against armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot and HEAT rounds.
The upper glacis plate of the tank received 4S20 "Kontakt-1" elements, and the frontal armor plates of the turret were equipped with classic wedge-shaped 4S22 ERA "Kontakt-5" elements. Thanks to this, the resistance of the frontal plates of the turret against kinetic projectiles increases from 380 to 500 mm, and against monoblock cumulative projectiles - to 750-800 mm.
The resistance of the upper frontal part of the hull against cumulative projectiles increases to 800 mm, while against kinetic projectiles it does not increase, remaining at 355 mm.
The side sectors in the rear of the turret received 4S24 "Relikt" elements and a frame with a lattice anti-cumulative screen, providing protection against RKG-3M and PG-7VS.
In addition, the tank was equipped with an advanced anti-cumulative, anti-drone lattice "visor", supplemented by 4S20 "Kontakt-1" elements on the upper armor plate of the turret. The vehicle is also equipped with one of the most promising mobile multi-band high-energy EW systems of the "Groza.04.K" type from Rostec.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Russian Armed Forces created a miniature wheeled drone to destroy enemy fortified areas. The platform is capable of delivering a TM-62 mine to the enemy's dugout and detonating it.
