Russian tankers have begun using the 3OF82 "Telnik" fragmentation-bundle shell in combat. This is a unique shell with ready-made submunitions that can explode at the desired point as it approaches the target. Moreover, the operator can independently choose the direction of the fragments – either forward or in a cone.
The "Telnik" effectively hits infantry units in trenches or in open spaces, where it is difficult to hit with a classic tank shell.
According to information from open sources, the ammunition contains 450 tungsten rods, which, when detonated, create a fragmentation field with a directed action of 2,500 fragments. In addition, the shell received a multi-mode fuse, which will allow you to accurately adjust it, depending on the type of target.
Technologically, the 3OF82 "Telnik" is a modification of the ZOF26 shell, which is used in 125 mm gun barrels, so they have the same dimensions. Currently, only T-90M "Proryv" tanks can fire the 3OF82 shell, but it is assumed that in the future it will be adapted for modifications of the T-80BVM and T-72B3.
