The first batch of nuclear fuel for the under-construction power unit No. 1 has been delivered to Kursk NPP-2. The first fuel assembly (FA of a nuclear reactor, containing fuel rods — fuel elements with nuclear fuel) will be loaded into the reactor in 2024, the Rosatom press service reported.
The delivery of fuel symbolizes that the VVER-TOI project has reached key stages of construction, showing a high degree of readiness of the first power unit for further start-up operations.
According to him, specialists plan to begin cold and hot testing of the reactor plant. This is the last major operation on the power unit before its launch. It is used to check all systems, main and auxiliary equipment.
Kursk NPP-2 is a station replacing the Kursk NPP (city of Kurchatov), it includes two power units with a capacity of 1255 MW each. Its construction is important for the development of the nuclear industry in Russia.
