The newest frigate of the Russian Navy Project 22350 "Admiral Gorshkov," capable of carrying hypersonic "Zircon" missiles, has arrived in Cuba. This information was published by the Telegram channel "Military Observer."
Following the frigate, the nuclear submarine "Kazan" of Project "Yasen-M" with guided missile weapons, the rescue tug "Nikolay Chiker," and the tanker "Academician Pashin" will appear in Cuba.
The Cuban Ministry of Defense announced a few days ago that the official visit of a group of Russian Navy ships to the port of Havana will take place from June 12 to 17. The arrival of the detachment was called friendly and fully compliant with international rules. Presumably, the Russian ships will conduct exercises in the Caribbean Sea.
USA Reaction
The news about the exercises being prepared under the USA's nose caused discontent among politicians. Senator Marco Rubio called on President Joe Biden to respond to Cuba for the decision to receive the Russian Navy ships on a visit. The distance from the Island of Freedom to the USA at the narrowest point of the Florida Strait is 180 km.
However, later, White House spokesman John Kirby defused the situation by stating that the country does not see this event as a threat to its national security.
