Илон Маск заподозрил Россию в попытках заглушить Starlink

Satellite communication system is getting off track

American businessman Elon Musk has again stated in his X account (formerly Twitter) about suspicions against Russia. The owner of SpaceX, which developed the global satellite system Starlink, says that SpaceX has to spend a lot to counter Russia's attempts to jam Starlink.

SpaceX is spending significant resources to counter jamming attempts by Russia. This is a serious problem.

He added that the Russian military manages to suppress any communication systems, except for Starlink.

In the spring of 2023, Elon Musk already stated about attempts to attack Starlink. He wrote on social networks that the system allegedly demonstrated resistance to attempts at «jamming and hacking». Later, earlier this year, the British newspaper The Sun stated that Russia uses such powerful electronic warfare systems that they «block the sky», creating interference for British aviation. And the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing sources in the intelligence community, noted that the Russian Tobol EW systems may well have the ability to influence satellite Internet systems.

However, the operation of Starlink satellites and other systems can also be affected by the Sun. Since the beginning of May, the Sun has been showing increased activity, and scientists are observing a series of flares of the highest class X. The Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences called the magnetic storms that occurred on Earth on May 10-12 the strongest of this century.

They were not the only ones: on May 13-14, a new series of class X flares occurred. They were a thousand times stronger than usual. After solar activity, several Starlink satellites were unable to operate normally.
