In the Krasnodar Territory, a part of the Russian missile attack warning system (SPRN) "Voronezh-DM" was damaged by a drone attack.
Information about this appeared in a number of Telegram channels, with photos allegedly taken at the scene attached to the publications. Later, in his Telegram channel, the attack and damage to the object were confirmed by the senator from the Zaporozhye region, former head of Roscosmos, and former Deputy Prime Minister for the military-industrial complex, Dmitry Rogozin.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet given an official comment on this matter.
Radar HFG "Voronezh-DM"
The high factory readiness radar station, whose main developer is the Moscow OJSC "Radiotechnical Institute named after A.L. Mints", is one of the objects of the Aerospace Forces. According to previously published information from the Ministry of Defense, it sees and identifies objects at a distance of up to 6 thousand kilometers horizontally and up to 8 thousand kilometers vertically.
The radar is capable of simultaneously detecting and tracking up to 500 objects, and it monitors the territory from North Africa to Southern Europe.
Intended for:
- detection of ballistic missiles on flight paths within the radar coverage areas;
- tracking and measuring the coordinates of detected targets and jammers;
- calculating the motion parameters of tracked targets based on radar measurements;
- determining the type of targets;
- issuing information about the target and jamming environment in automatic mode.
It requires only 0.7 MW to operate. This is part of the "Voronezh" radar family for space control systems (SKKP) and missile attack warning systems (SPRN), which are located throughout Russia.
Radar Stations "Voronezh"
These are over-the-horizon stationary high factory readiness radars, which should form a closed radar field for warning of a missile attack on Russia. It is known that this system was supposed to include a space echelon, which would make it possible to detect ballistic missiles almost immediately after launch. However, its construction has not been completed to this day.
High factory readiness allows one station to be built in just 12–18 months. This includes a transmitting and receiving unit with an active phased array antenna, a quickly erected building for personnel, and several containers with electronic equipment. The locator operates in the meter, decimeter, and centimeter ranges.
Electricity consumption varies depending on the radar modification from 0.7 MW to 10 MW. In addition to "Voronezh-DM", one of the most famous radars, its relatives are known, although there is not much information about their characteristics in open sources. These are:
- "Voronezh-M" radars, which operate in the meter range of radio waves on targets up to 6 thousand kilometers;
- "Voronezh-VP" radars, an enhanced meter version of "Voronezh-M";
- "Voronezh-SM" radars, which operate in the centimeter range of radio waves;
- "Voronezh-MSM" radars in the meter and centimeter ranges;
- "Voronezh-MM-SM-M-DM" radars in four ranges;
- "Voronezh-DM-VP" radars.
Almost all modifications were developed with the participation of specialists from the Radio Engineering Institute named after A. L. Mints (part of the RTI Systems concern). The final number of such radar objects in the system is not known, however, according to data from open sources, there are more than ten of them.
