Rusatom MetallTech, the integrator company of the fuel division of the Rosatom State Corporation in the field of Metallurgy, has announced a fivefold increase in the production of domestic ultra-strong wires made of copper-niobium alloy. They are needed for enterprises in the aerospace industry, railway transport, electric power industry, and electronics. However, the main incentive to invest in production growth was the federal space program.
In satellite construction, these particularly thin wires are used for the production of mesh fabrics for antennas of telecommunications satellite repeaters and shielding materials to protect aerospace equipment from electromagnetic radiation.
Russian copper-niobium wires have a magnetic field level of up to 100 Tesla and, according to manufacturers, this product "has no competitors in the Russian or global market in terms of technical characteristics". These are ultra-high strength and electrical conductivity, wear resistance, heat resistance, and minimal weight and size parameters.
Previously, the Rusatom MetallTech enterprise produced one ton of such wires, but now the output will be five tons per year. If measured in kilometers, this is up to 500,000 kilometers of wires per year.
