The modernized TOS-1A "Solntsepek" heavy flamethrower system is"compared to nuclear weapons in the West - its strikes are so destructive." This was stated by military expert Alexei Egorov in the "Military Acceptance" program.
The TOS-1A "Solntsepek" works in conjunction with an infantry fighting vehicle, a KamAZ truck, and a pickup truck with a machine gun. Three soldiers get out of the pickup truck, their task is to scout the area for the TOS to operate using a drone. This is what the work of the reconnaissance and cover group looks like. They decide where the flamethrower operators should go, and they also direct the TOS to the target.
According to Egorov, after receiving data from reconnaissance, the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" crews move to a position. There they perform a sighting shot, and then fire is adjusted.
The operating time at the firing position is less than a minute. Then we leave this position. As our commander says - the enemy will be stopped by mines and TOSs.
How the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" is loaded
In the rear, a transport-loading vehicle helps soldiers load the TOS with unguided rockets, but on the position, the soldiers do it manually. Ammunition is delivered by a KamAZ truck, which travels in conjunction with the "Solntsepek."
Soldiers use their belt to load NURS into the TOSka. And this is twice as fast as with a charging machine. Manually loading a full ammunition load takes 20 minutes
How the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" was modernized
The TOS-1A was modernized, increasing protection against drones. The heavy flamethrower system received dynamic protection for the front tracks, rollers, and hydraulic pipes.
We have additional side protection. Now we can safely say that we can withstand RPG, ATGM, and drone hits with HEAT projectiles
