The main difference between the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" heavy flamethrower system (produced at the Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant) and artillery guns is their principle of operation. Artillery usually hits ground targets, while the TOS hits the enemy's closed positions (bunkers, pillboxes, and fortified fire points). This was stated by a serviceman of the Russian Armed Forces.
The TOS crew consists of three people: the commander, the gunner, and the driver-mechanic. We fire thermobaric projectiles with a range of up to 6 kilometers.
