The main difference between the TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" heavy flamethrower system (produced at the Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant) and artillery guns is their operating principle. Artillery usually strikes ground targets, while the TOS strikes closed enemy positions (bunkers, pillboxes, and fortified firing positions). Earlier, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu inspected the production of the TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" at a plant in the Omsk region. He was informed that the production of guns in 2023 increased by 2.5 times due to scaling production and increasing staff. The plant in Omsk operates around the clock.
