The foreign ministers of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have accused Russia of jamming GPS signals in the Baltic Sea, which forced two Finnish Air Force planes to return to their airfields, wrote the Financial Times newspaper.
According to Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, the Baltic states will discuss Russia's activities in the Baltic Sea with NATO allies.
Such actions constitute a hybrid attack and pose a threat to our security.
His Lithuanian colleague Gabrielius Landsbergis agreed. The high-ranking diplomat stated that GPS problems cannot be ignored. According to the Financial Times, civilian aircraft performing tens of thousands of flights have encountered signal quality issues in recent months.
One of the Baltic officials suggested that Russia is jamming GPS in the region to protect the airspace of the Kaliningrad region (which borders Poland and Lithuania).
Kaliningrad is the base of the Russian Baltic Fleet. Earlier, the "Bal" coastal missile system crews conducted firings at sea targets from the coast of the Kaliningrad region.
