«Выстрелил — забыл» в трех режимах по врагу — как работает российская ракета 9М333 для «Стрелы-10»

The missile's homing head will find the target even with interference

The Ministry of Defense has shown the operation of the Strela-10 anti-aircraft missile systems, which are in the balance of the Russian air defense system and cover troops and civilian objects from air threats. They are considered one of the most effective complexes against air strikes, destruction by cruise missiles, rockets, and kamikaze drones of the enemy.

As soon as any airborne object that does not respond to the "friend-or-foe" request enters the area of responsibility of the air defense crews, it is taken for escort and engaged. This is aided by the 9M333 guided anti-aircraft missile.

The 9M333 SAM is a relatively new product for the concern, its serial production was launched in December 2020. Kalashnikov itself notes that "the ammunition works on the principle of "fired and forget"". At any time of the year, the missile engages various air threats: from low-flying aircraft and helicopters to cruise missiles and drones.

Characteristics of the 9M333 SAM:

  • missile caliber — 120 mm;
  • mass of explosive — 2.6 kg;
  • missile mass — 41 kg, together with the container — 72 kg;
  • flight altitude of engaged targets — from 10 to 3500 m;
  • target engagement range — from 800 to 5000 m;
  • operating conditions — from -50 to +50 °С.

Even the use of dropped, parachuted, and modulated organized optical interference by the enemy does not prevent the missile from destroying targets. The 9M333 has three modes of operation for the homing head for this: photo-contrast, infrared, and interference. This property gives the 9M333 an advantage over similar missiles.
