«Неубиваемые» огнеметные системы: ТОС-1А «Солнцепёк» и ТОС-2 «Тосочка» получили дополнительную защиту

Heavy Flamethrower Systems Improved Based on Combat Experience, with the Installation of False Sides and Slat Armor

Russian engineers have improved the protection of TOS-1A "Solntsepek" and TOS-2 "Tosochka", taking into account the experience of using heavy flamethrower systems in combat operations.

The main threat to TOS are FPV drones (unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with a camera that allows the operator to monitor the situation). Such UAVs strike military equipment with shaped-charge munitions. To neutralize this threat, lattice screens have begun to be installed on both versions of TOS.

Where Lattice Screens are Used:

  • on tracked versions of TOS
  • on wheeled versions of TOS

Protective lattice screens are mounted on guide packages designed to launch 220 mm caliber rockets. Moreover, in the case of "Solntsepek", they are installed not only on the roof and sides, but also in the rear of the TOS.

TOS-1A received false sides, unified with the false sides on T-80BVM and T-72B3M tanks. In addition, the engineers decided to switch from TZM-T transport-loading vehicles based on the T-72B to KamAZ all-terrain vehicles. With such protection, the TOS became "unkillable".

Previously, specialists at VNII "Signal" improved the navigation system of TOS-1A "Solntsepek", which increased the accuracy of strikes.
