Российские противоосколочные одеяла «Эгида» после модернизации научились маскировать бойцов

The production of new "Aegis" is scheduled to begin this summer

The Kalashnikov Group shared the success of the modernization of the anti-fragmentation blanket "Aegis", which was developed by its subsidiary JSC "NII Stali".

In the first version, the "Aegis" blanket showed excellent results, stopping more than 85% of the grenade fragments that hit it during testing, which flew at a speed of more than 400 m/s. Later, its new version "Aegis-U" increased in weight and level of anti-fragmentation resistance. Such a blanket was already able to protect people and equipment from fragments flying at a speed of 650 m/s.

Now, the developers have added new parameters to the basic version of "Aegis" at the request of the operators.

...JSC "NII Stali" assessed the masking properties of its product in various ranges of the EM spectrum. It turned out that with a little refinement, "Aegis" works perfectly in the IR range, providing protection against detection by night vision devices and thermal sights.

The "number of specific parameters" is not fully disclosed. But it is known that the modernized anti-fragmentation blanket is now able to, for example, protect the antenna units of radar stations from fragments without compromising the radio transparency of a number of ranges.

It is planned to start production of the modified "Aegis" blanket with masking characteristics soon: from the 3rd quarter of 2024.
