A scandal has erupted around one of the Rostec family's entities, the Kazan Helicopter Plant.
It turned out that during the assembly of a number of civilian helicopters, the gaskets for their fuel system were made of rubber with counterfeit quality certificates. Such rubber could disintegrate in the air during any flight - this would lead to engine shutdown due to fuel starvation.
During the inspection and replacement of counterfeit parts, Rosaviatsiya suspended the operation of 37 helicopters in various services. More than 80% of them have already been inspected, had their parts replaced and fuel systems flushed, passed a control flight, and returned to work.
The largest number of helicopters with counterfeit gaskets were in the National Air Ambulance Service - 18 units. The remaining helicopters went to Avialesookhrana, Gazpromavia, KrasAvia, Yamal Airlines, and other structures.
According to Izvestia, Rostec has taken all measures to prevent such cases from recurring. All defective gaskets, after tests confirming their unsuitability for installation, were removed from the production shops to a reject isolator and replaced on all helicopters that were already ready.
Documents confirming the non-compliance of products with the technical conditions of GOST were transferred to the company's security service. An internal audit was conducted, which established the fact of forgery of rubber quality documents. The materials and the company's statement were sent to law enforcement agencies.
It is also known that a criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, on fraud committed by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy. It is at the stage of trial.
