The 18-9DGM diesel generator was developed for the 3TE28 at the TMH Engine Building Engineering Center. The domestic "heart" helps to drive trains weighing up to 7,100 tons in difficult terrain and climatic conditions.

At the same time, the diesel locomotive saves fuel and oil by about 10%. In addition, the diesel locomotive has increased maintenance intervals, which helps to reduce the cost of maintenance and repairs by up to 25%. It is designed for a service life of 45 years.

It is known that the volume of the pilot series is defined as 400 diesel locomotives in three- or two-section versions. Russian Railways planned to purchase 30 3TE28 diesel locomotives this year alone.
