Russians themselves will be able to track whether their SIM cards and personal data in the form of their phone numbers are being used by fraudsters. At the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Development, a section may appear in the personal account on Gosuslugi where the user will be able to see all the SIM cards that are registered to him.
A citizen will be able to block a suspicious number that he does not use, but is registered to him, or his old number, or a fake number-duplicate of his number.
Currently, such blocking is done by telecom operators at the request of customers online, as well as after a call or visit of the subscriber to the office. Plus, since the beginning of the year, a unified platform for verifying telephone calls "Antifraud" from Roskomnadzor has been tested in Russia to prevent telephone fraud.
But fraud using spoofed numbers remains one of the most frequent ways to steal funds in Russia. In 2023, the number of attempts to deceive by telephone against Russians reached 8.6 million per day, compared to 5 million in 2022.
