The modernization of Tu-160M strategic missile-carrying bombers touched upon many onboard systems of the aircraft. The features of the technical improvement of the "White Swans" were explained in the Information Support Group of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia.

The peculiarity of the modernized models of aviation equipment is the installation of modern navigation systems, new electronic warfare systems, equipping with new weapons, new avionics, as well as the latest means of displaying information on the instrument panels of the crew.
All Tu-160 aircraft available in the VKS — 15–16 machines — are undergoing a deep modernization, they will receive the Tu-160M index. Missile carriers built from scratch at the Kazan Aviation Plant under the Tu-160 resumption program will receive the Tu-160M2 index.
Tu-160M is a modernized strategic missile carrier equipped with four new NK-32-02 engines manufactured by the United Engine Corporation. The first prototype Tu-160M was created as part of a large-scale program to modernize strategic and long-range aviation aircraft complexes, which is carried out by PJSC "Tupolev".
