A car's smart key can be protected from theft with an anti-theft case, steering wheel lock, and anti-theft system. Regular software updates and reflashing also play an important role in ensuring security, according to Igor Mishin, an expert at the National Technology Initiative "Avtonet".
Modern smart keys allow you to control car doors and the trunk without a physical key, using radio signals. However, this technology is not without risks: attackers can intercept the signal from your key and gain unauthorized access to the car.
How to protect the signal from interception? The easiest way is to use an anti-theft case for the key. It blocks the transmission of the signal and works on the principle of a "Faraday cage", familiar from physics lessons. That is, it shields the key from the effects of external electromagnetic fields and reflects any signals. This provides protection.
To protect the car, you can install a steering wheel lock, which is not easy to remove quickly when car thieves have every minute counting. An immobilizer is another effective tool. It blocks the engine and makes the car inaccessible to thieves.
Inventive car owners wrap keys in foil, put them in metal candy tins – it's a matter of imagination and creativity.
For reliable protection of wireless connections in the car, always turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi if you don't need them, Mishin added. Regularly update the software and, if necessary, reprogram the smart keys.
Earlier it became known that Russia may introduce new standards for car safety. They will require manufacturers to equip cars with physical buttons to control key functions.
