Expert Warned About the Danger of Using T-55AM in Close-Range Tank Duels

Serious Consequences May Occur for Combat Vehicles

Russian military personnel should use T-55AM tanks without dynamic protection and with single-tier anti-cumulative "visors" exclusively as mobile artillery pieces. In all other scenarios, combat vehicles face serious danger, according to military expert Evgeny Damantsev.

The analyst noted that the equivalent resistance of the frontal projection of T-55AM tank turrets against armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) projectiles is about 200-230 mm, and the upper frontal parts (UFP) of the hull are 100 mm.

Therefore, the frontal projection of these tanks can be hit by all anti-tank missile systems and tank armor-piercing projectiles without exception.

The use of these vehicles may be expedient and safe for crews only when using the Tula "Bastion" guided weapon system from a distance of 5000 m, or when firing from closed positions. The use of T-55AM in direct close-range tank duels and assaults can be fraught with very serious consequences.
