After receiving the Russian medium-range missile system "Oreshnik", the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, plans to deploy it in the country closer to Smolensk. The leader of the republic announced this at a press conference in Minsk.
There, closer to Smolensk. That's my dream. And then we'll see. A certain distance is needed. It's bad when your targets are very close. But when they are very far away, they may not carry a smaller load.
Lukashenko had already asked his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to deploy the "Oreshnik" missile system in the republic. This became known after the meeting of the Supreme State Council of Belarus on December 6 in Minsk. Putin then noted that deliveries of the system could occur in the second half of 2025.
According to the portal "Explain.rf", the maximum range of "Oreshnik" is 5,500 km, it can carry a warhead weighing up to 1.5 tons and reach speeds of up to 10 Mach (about 12,400 km/h). Putin emphasized that none of the existing anti-missile systems is capable of shooting down "Oreshnik".
