Footage has gone viral on the Internet showing episodes of the destruction of HIMARS multiple launch rocket system launchers by the Russian Iskander-M operational-tactical quasi-ballistic missile 9M723-1. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev explained how to make the work of the domestic complex even more effective in the confrontation with the American MLRS.
He noted that HIMARS is often detected by the infrared signature of the heat-contrast elements of the complex via the IR channel of the multispectral optoelectronic complex located on the S350M Supercam UAV. However, this tactic does not always work.
In the case of operating the S350M UAV over the positional area at the moment when the M142 launcher is in a disguised shelter, the detection of HIMARS via the infrared channel would be excluded.
The analyst suggested using Tu-214R strategic radar reconnaissance aircraft with onboard AESA radars MRK-411 to detect armored vehicles, barrel artillery, and OTRK disguised in forests.
Tu-214Rs are capable of detecting and classifying large disguised ground objects of the enemy at a distance of up to 250 km in synthetic aperture mode, as well as targets such as self-propelled guns and a tank platoon at a distance of up to 170 km.
Iskander-M is a Russian OTRK designed to destroy enemy air defense and missile defense systems, as well as other important objects at a maximum range of up to 500 km.
The complex is equipped with two main types of missiles: the R-500 cruise missile, capable of automatically bypassing the terrain, and the 9M723 quasi-ballistic missile with electronic warfare modules for jamming and the possibility of control over the entire flight path.
