Rostec is doing everything necessary to speed up the delivery of the latest Derivation-PVO anti-aircraft gun system to the troops. This is the only SPAAG in the world that hits aerial targets with 57-mm guns and is equipped with artillery fire control equipment.
The Derivation-PVO was first presented at the Army-2018 forum, and in June 2020 the system took part in the Victory Parade on Red Square for the first time.
The self-propelled anti-aircraft gun was developed on the chassis of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle. The 2S38 gun is capable of firing ammunition with controlled detonation for the most effective fight against aerial targets. First of all, it is designed to combat cruise missiles, drones and aviation weapons in the near zone, and is also capable of operating against ground targets.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev noted that the Derivation-PVO can be used to support tanks in battle.
He recalled that key elements of the armament of the heavy Swedish CV9040C Stridsfordon-90 infantry fighting vehicle, in particular, the Bofors L70 automatic gun and APFSDS-T Mk 1 sub-caliber projectiles with armor penetration of 120 mm at a distance of 1.5 km at an initial speed of 1480 m/s, previously fell into the hands of Russian engineers.
Specialists of JSC "NIMI named after V.V. Bakhirev" can, based on the data of these projectiles, begin developing domestic 57-mm APFSDS of a similar type in the shortest possible time to update the ammunition of 2A91 guns of highly automated 2S38 "Derivation-PVO" anti-aircraft guns.
The calculated armor penetration of APFSDS of this caliber with cores made of depleted uranium or tungsten in this case can reach 200 - 210 mm at a distance of 1500 m, the analyst emphasized.
This will allow the Derivation-PVO to be used as an infantry fighting vehicle or a tank support combat vehicle, but the SPAAG must be equipped with a stock Relikt dynamic protection kit based on 4S24 elements, or Cactus.
Industrial Director of the Rostec cluster of conventional weapons Bekhan Ozdoev emphasized that the state corporation is doing everything possible to speed up the delivery of Derivation-PVO to the front.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russian fiber optic FPV drones turned out to be completely invulnerable to electronic warfare at the front lines. The new type of UAV does not require careful selection of position and is protected from interception of the video signal.
