The use of Russian Geran-4 and Geran-5 drones with jet engines, as well as Dan-T missile drones, has significantly complicated the use of helicopters and certain types of aircraft for interceptions. This was reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Previously, during Geran flights, old two-seat piston Yak-52s, the Polish modification of An-28 – PZL M28 Skytruck, as well as Mi-8s and Mi-24s, took to the skies.
On the Yak-52, fire was directed from hand-held machine guns by gunners in the instructor pilot seats. The twin-engine PZL M28 received an American 7.62-mm M134 Minigun with a rotating barrel block. The same weapon was mounted on some Mi-8s. Mi-24s used 30-mm automatic cannons.
But now this scheme has stopped working. UAVs are capable of accelerating to 500–600 km/h. Slow-moving helicopters and piston aircraft cannot catch up with them or effectively maneuver on intersecting courses.
