The Tu-124 monument aircraft with tail number USSR-64452 in Kimry, Tver Region, has been restored by specialists from the Kazan Aircraft Plant named after S. P. Gorbunov, a branch of PAO "Tupolev". The work was completed for the 104th anniversary of the founding of the Tupolev Design Bureau and on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Kazan Aircraft Plant.

Before starting the repairs, specialists assessed the machine's condition as severe. The aircraft had been outdoors for many years, next to a busy highway. Corrosion, dirt, and growths were removed from the airframe, after which the surface was sanded, degreased, and primed.

The work also affected individual structural elements. The aircraft's glazing was replaced and sealed, the landing gear bay was repaired, and the doors were restored. Lighting in the cabin, on the landing gear, and on the wingtips was also restored.

The final stage was painting. The aircraft was given a historically accurate color scheme — this is how the Tu-124 USSR-64452 arrived at the Borki airfield in the Tver Region on May 20, 1983.

Tail number USSR-64452 belongs to a Tu-124 produced in 1965. The Tu-124 was one of the first passenger liners with D-20P turbofan engines. TsAGI calls it one of the world's first passenger aircraft with such a power plant. The Tu-124 made its first regular flight on October 2, 1962, on the Moscow — Tallinn route.

Today, the aircraft in Kimry is preserved as a historical object. After the work carried out, the Tu-124 acquired an appearance corresponding to its historical paint scheme and monument configuration.
