Russian Railways is gradually commissioning new T-dimension passenger carriages. They are 28 centimeters wider and 73 centimeters longer than standard ones, which allows for larger sleeping berths and wider aisles. These carriages include showers, and by 2028, the company plans to create a carriage with individual sleeping capsules.

Thanks to the additional centimeters, sleeping berths have been made longer and aisles wider. The T-dimension compartment carriage provides 40 seats instead of 36, and the upper berth has become 16 centimeters longer, while the lower one is 6 centimeters longer. The width of the berths has increased by 3 centimeters.

Another feature is a shower cabin. It is provided in each such compartment carriage along with two restrooms. The compartments also have sockets, USB ports, individual lighting, and safes.

Separately, Russian Railways is developing a T-dimension open-plan carriage. It is planned to have 58 seats instead of 54. Transverse berths should become 14 centimeters longer and 3 centimeters wider, while side berths should be 10 centimeters longer and 4 centimeters wider. Passengers will have curtains, personal lighting, tables, air ducts, USB and 220 V sockets. The carriage is also planned to have two restrooms and a separate shower.

However, the open-plan carriage cannot yet be considered ready for mass operation. The project still needs to be brought to a prototype stage, after which the carriage will undergo testing and certification. Previously, Russian Railways planned to start purchasing such carriages in 2027.

The next stage is the capsule carriage. In it, the passenger gets a separate sleeping place, separated from the common space. Russian Railways is considering arranging the capsules in a longitudinal "chessboard" pattern. This option has become the leader among the presented layouts. 

For now, the design development needs to be completed, a prototype built, tests conducted, and the necessary certificates obtained. The idea is primarily intended for passengers who travel alone and want more personal space.
