Rosatom opened a reference laboratory in Seversk, Tomsk Oblast, to train personnel for the experimental operation of the IV generation power complex. The laboratory was established within the framework of the national project “New Nuclear and Energy Technologies”.

A cooperation agreement was signed by Rosatom, JSC “Proryv”, Rosatom Technical Academy, JSC “SHK”, MEPhI, and Tomsk Polytechnic University. The Seversk Technological Institute – a branch of MEPhI – will become the coordinating and methodological link for the laboratory's management. It is located as close as possible to the production site of the IV generation experimental demonstration power complex.

Why is this needed

The reference laboratory in Seversk will be a direct response to the personnel demand of the “Proryv” project. It will train specialists to work at ODEC facilities, which will allow for the formation of a personnel reserve for the nuclear industry.

The “Proryv” project aims to create a closed nuclear fuel cycle based on fast neutron reactors. It is being implemented under the management of JSC “Proryv” with the participation of industry institutes.

The laboratory in Seversk became the third in Rosatom's network of reference laboratories. The first was opened in “Sirius” for robotics, the second – in St. Petersburg for computer modeling of NPPs. By the end of 2026, two more sites are planned to be launched: for radiochemistry and digital solutions.
