Russian GS Nanotech and NIIET (part of Element Group) have completed the packaging of a pilot batch of the dual-core K1921VG10Ya microcontroller based on the RISC-V architecture. The new BGA216 package, measuring 13×13 mm, replaced the LQFP-208 28×28 mm, reducing the occupied area by approximately five times.

The die remained the same: two 32-bit RISC-V cores with a frequency of up to 204 MHz, 4 MB Flash and 1 MB SRAM, Gigabit Ethernet with PHY, and a hardware crypto module with AES, Kuznechik, and Magma. Lockstep mode is supported, where both cores synchronously perform the same operations — this is critical for functional safety systems.
A compact package is especially important for industrial automation and embedded electronics, where every millimeter of the board counts. According to the developers, the high yield of good products in the pilot batch confirmed readiness for mass production.
Previously, GS Nanotech had already transferred the K5591XC1Ya FPGA from an expensive ceramic package to a plastic BGA576 — so this is not the first experience of moving Russian chips into a modern compact design.
