Geoscan introduced its own UWB navigation system for positioning quadcopters inside large enclosed spaces. The technology was demonstrated on September 23 at VDNKh during the award ceremony of the Russian Export Center's 'Exporter of the Year. Made in Russia' award. The system is designed for areas from 8×8 meters and, according to the company, provides positioning accuracy of up to 5 cm.

The solution is based on a software algorithm, radio beacons, and UWB navigation modules. UWB stands for Ultra-Wide Band, which is an ultra-wideband radio technology. It is used to determine the position of an aircraft indoors where a satellite signal is unavailable or not accurate enough.
According to Alexey Yuretsky, CEO of Geoscan, the company decided to create its own system after existing solutions did not meet its requirements. He also reported that UWB support has already been implemented in 'Pioneer Mini 2' with onboard artificial intelligence.
On the official page of 'Pioneer Mini 2', the UWB module is listed as additional equipment. The quadcopter itself supports several navigation options, including optical, infrared, ultrasonic, GNSS, and UWB navigation.
The new system can be used for drone shows and in educational projects, the developers emphasized.
