A Volga-Dnepr Airlines Il-76TD-90VD cargo transport aircraft completed an unusual flight from Namibia to Russia. The aircraft delivered 8 giraffes – three males and five females – from Windhoek to Kazan.

The total weight of the animals, along with their special crates, was 6.5 tons. A special diet was prepared for their flight, and an additional 500 kg of feed was loaded on board, approximately 62 kg for each giraffe.

The execution of the request took 6 weeks; specialists took into account the specifics of animal placement, their nutrition, and the conditions of a long flight.

The Il-76TD-90VD cargo aircraft, a modification with PS-90A-76 engines, was used for transportation. Recall that the aircraft's payload capacity is 50 tons, so the giraffes and their provisions were, in every sense, light work for it.

The airline is ready to transport cargo of any complexity to any point on the planet. Recently, Volga-Dnepr delivered two elephant calves to Russia from Laos. Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith gifted the animals to his Russian counterpart.
