Russia is considering the possibility of transferring Pantsir anti-aircraft missile-gun system production technologies to India. If the project is approved, its production could be organized at the facilities of the Indian company Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), according to the IDRW agency.
Analyst Raunak Kunde explained that this is no longer about direct supply of finished complexes, but about localization of production within the framework of the Indian Make in India initiative.
The agreement provides for the production of Pantsir modifications at the company's facilities and their supply to the Indian armed forces, as well as the implementation of projects for the transfer of foreign technologies.
Russia is promoting a newer version of the complex for India – the Pantsir-S1M. Its detection radar is capable of tracking up to 40 targets at a range of up to 80 km. The Bulgarian Military publication stated that India "has been observing and analyzing" the operation of the air defense missile system in real combat conditions for years.
In parallel, India is considering the possibility of purchasing long-range S-500 Prometey. But the project is in question amid India's work on its own Kusha air defense system.
