Russian machine tool building has quadrupled the number of enterprises in five years – from 40 in 2021 to approximately 160 now. However, domestic products currently occupy only 33% of the domestic market. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov, at the "Customer Day" forum.

According to Alikhanov, one of the main factors in the expansion of machine tool building was the program for updating and increasing the capacities of the defense-industrial complex, which generated additional demand for equipment.

Manufacturers are gradually expanding their product range. Russia is already producing in-demand five-axis machining centers, and among the priority areas, the Ministry of Industry and Trade names vertical and horizontal centers, including equipment for titanium processing, grinding and gear-cutting machines, heavy equipment, and presses.

The next stage for the industry is to transition to more complex production systems. Among the promising areas, Alikhanov highlighted high-speed machining, work with composites, automated lines, multi-purpose machining centers, and flexible complexes with pallet systems and collaborative robots.

A separate task remains to simplify the implementation of CNC systems: currently, installing each system on a machine tool can require separate work from designers and additional costs.
