The promising Russian Vilyui anti-aircraft system will be taught in advance to solve a problem that arises even after successful air defense operations – predicting where the debris of a shot-down target will fall. This was told to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" by the project author, retired colonel and former S-300 commander Igor Garnov.

It is planned to upload a map with zones where falling debris will not create an additional threat into the digital computing complex.

The launch is automatic when the missile-target meeting point enters this zone. Such zones can in most cases be defined and designated: vacant lots, reservoirs, forest parks, construction sites.

That is, "Vilyui" must take into account not only the trajectory of the air target itself, but also the consequences of its destruction. For air defense of industrial facilities, this allows pre-selecting an area where the missile will meet the target.

At the same time, Garnov incorporates all-round visibility and high multi-channel capability into the system. According to his estimates, just one "Vilyui" with a range of about 10 km will be able to cover several enterprises at once, distributing the cost of the complex and ammunition among them.
