The operator of the "Arctic LNG 2" project demanded approximately $1.02 billion from the South Korean shipbuilding company Hanwha Ocean. The statement was registered with the international arbitration in Singapore, Reuters reported.

The parties concluded contracts for the construction of three Arc7 ice-class vessels worth $850 million in 2020. The gas carriers were planned to be delivered by July 31, 2023, but Hanwha Ocean terminated the agreements.

Now the project operator claims that the shipyard violated rights enshrined in separate agreements that allowed "Arctic LNG 2" to enter into contractual relations for these vessels. This refers specifically to the three gas carriers ordered by Russian entities.

Each Arc7 is designed to transport up to 172.5 thousand m³ of LNG. Such vessels are capable of operating in difficult ice conditions.

Also, the "Arctic-2" project is gradually getting rid of foreign components. Recently, Japanese Ebara cryogenic submersible pumps were replaced with entirely domestic equipment.
