The Nizhny Novgorod Aircraft Plant "Sokol" possesses technological capabilities for full-fledged work with the MiG-31 family. Other enterprises do not have such competencies, explained Nikolay Chikunov, a designer at the Mikoyan Design Bureau, to "Pervy Tekhnichesky".
According to him, the plant's technologies are related not only to repair but also to the modernization and re-equipment of aircraft.
No other plant in Russia, as they say, can do this. Other enterprises can repair MiG-31s, but full-fledged modernization and re-equipment require completely different competencies.
The press service of the Rostec State Corporation also named NAZ "Sokol" as the only plant producing MiG-31s in series.
Currently, one of the main activities of the enterprise is the modernization and repair of MiG-31 and MiG-29UB aircraft, as well as the production of main units for the ship-based fighter MiG-29K/KUB and the MiG-29M/M2 fighter.
Earlier it became known that "Sokol" might start building LMS-192 "Osvey" light aircraft, but this decision has not yet been officially approved.
