The Su-25 may get a new role after possible integration with the Geran-5 jet UAV. According to Sputnik Live, citing sources, launching the drone from the attack aircraft's hardpoint will significantly change the way the aircraft is used.

Currently, when using unguided rockets, the Su-25 often employs pop-up attacks: the aircraft rapidly gains altitude, launches, and immediately descends. This technique reduces the time spent in the danger zone but limits the possibilities of weapon employment.

If the Su-25's arsenal includes the "Geran-5" with a range of up to 1,000 km, it will make it a carrier of modern high-precision weapons that can be launched without entering the enemy's air defense engagement zone.

In this variant, the attack aircraft will be able to act as a carrier that delivers the drone to the desired point, after which it continues its flight independently. The main aircraft, in turn, gains the ability to operate at a significantly greater distance from the line of contact.

According to open sources, the "Geran-5" is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 600 km. Military expert Yuri Knutov noted that the drone flies according to a digital terrain map, and machine vision helps to compare the information received during the flight.
