The Russian jet drone "Geran-5" has received two features that distinguish it from earlier attack UAVs – a new engine and machine vision elements. Military expert Yuri Knutov spoke about this.

He clarified that a digital map of the terrain is loaded into the drone's memory, and machine vision helps to compare the information received during the flight with the specified parameters.

This drone selects exactly the target that needs to be hit and destroys it with high accuracy.

According to him, the onboard system is capable of working with a digital terrain map. "Geran-5" accelerates up to 600 km/h and significantly reduces the time for detection by air defense systems.

Analysts of the "Voennaya Khronika" project confirmed that the military's request has shifted to the less long-range, but faster "Geran-5" compared to the "Geran-2" with a piston engine. According to available data, "Geran-5" is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 600 km, although earlier figures up to 1000 km were mentioned.
