iPhone owners may be left without full access to the digital ruble at its launch on September 1. Banks have not yet been able to push updated applications with new functionality through the App Store, according to "Vedomosti" citing sources in financial organizations and among developers.

The problem is related to two factors. To work with the digital ruble, applications must use Russian cryptographic protection tools and access the infrastructure of the Bank of Russia. Such characteristics allow Apple to recognize the program's connection to a Russian bank, many of which are under sanctions, after which the publication may be rejected.

An additional difficulty is that there is currently no certified solution for iOS that simultaneously meets the Central Bank's security requirements and is suitable for mobile applications. For Android, the necessary technologies already exist, which is why VTB, RSHB, and Bank Rossiya have confirmed the launch of the digital ruble specifically on this platform.

However, this does not mean a complete ban on the digital ruble on iPhones. The Central Bank notes that it will be possible to use it if there is an up-to-date banking application with the necessary function. In addition, some banks are preparing access through web versions, and it may be possible to install a fresh build of the application directly through the bank.

Starting September 1, the digital ruble will become the third form of Russian currency, alongside cash and non-cash money. The largest banks will be required to open wallets through their services, but for some iPhone users, the launch will apparently proceed with limitations.
