Participants of the "Clean Arctic" expedition, together with meteorologists from the E. K. Fedorov station at Cape Chelyuskin, conducted an educational and scientific launch of a weather balloon. This was reported by the project's press service.

A weather balloon is a small aerostat with a container of measuring equipment. During the flight, the instruments record temperature, pressure, humidity, air current speed, and coordinates. On average, the probe ascends to an altitude of up to 35 km and moves 200 km away from the launch site. The data is sent to the Northern UGMS and the Unified State Environmental Data Fund, after which it is distributed to the country's synoptic services. These measurements are critically important for the safety of navigation along the Northern Sea Route, aviation, and industry.

Volunteers not only clean Arctic territories but also master the full cycle of hydrometeorologists' work: from preparing the aerostat to processing data. As project coordinator Alexander Markov noted, the expedition goes beyond classic environmental volunteering, giving volunteers practical experience in observing natural processes in the extreme conditions of the Far North.

The polar station has been conducting continuous observations since 1932. This allows scientists to record systemic climate changes — permafrost dynamics, sea ice area, and ice season duration. The "Clean Arctic" project has been active since 2021: over all seasons, volunteers have collected more than 22 thousand tons of waste and cleaned over 1.1 thousand hectares. The expedition is conducted with the support of the Presidential Nature Fund, with Rosatom acting as the general partner.
