The production and use of inexpensive Geran-2 drones have decreased, with more in-demand "older" versions of drones replacing them. This was reported by analysts from "Voennaya Khronika".
The authors noted that there is a demand for faster jet drones, such as Geran-4 and Geran-5.
At significantly higher speeds, crews have less time to detect and track a target, helicopters find it harder to catch up, and some electric interceptors are already not fast enough or completely useless.
Analysts called Geran-5 drones an intermediate link between an attack UAV and an inexpensive cruise missile. They fly up to 950 km at speeds of up to 640 km/h.
The focus is no longer just on the number of targets, but also on the variety of their speeds and characteristics. Different echelons require different interception means, which puts more strain on the entire air defense system and contributes to target destruction.
Earlier, the official characteristics of Geran-2 became known. The drone accelerates to 190 km/h and has a maximum range of up to 1800 km.
Components from foreign companies such as Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Qorvo, Infineon, NXP Semiconductors, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and others were found in Geran-2 drones.
