The Zaporizhzhia NPP is left without external power supply, the plant reported. The 330 kV high-voltage line "Ferrosplavnaya-1", which supplied its own needs, was disconnected due to damage by automatic protection.
The power units were routinely switched to backup diesel generators; the equipment operated without incident. Evgeniya Yashina, Communications Director of ZAES, suggested that the damage is most likely related to military activity. IAEA inspectors at the plant have been informed of the outage.
The second backup line, "Dneprovskaya", remains de-energized for an unknown reason. The radiation background at the site and in the observation zone does not exceed the norm. The situation is under the control of the plant's specialists.
In the event of a loss of external power supply, the plant's diesel generators automatically switch to backup power for the systems. This allows essential safety functions to be maintained even in the temporary absence of power from the external grid.
