The new cruise missile "Banderol" has become a unified munition for almost the entire line of combat aircraft of the Russian Armed Forces. There will be no need to build a specialized bomber for it, explained Alexander Stepanov, an expert at the Institute of Law and National Security of RANEPA.
According to him, the Su-24 bomber, the Su-34 supersonic fighter-bomber, and the Su-35 multi-role fighter can act as carriers. Such a variety of carriers is not currently observed for any of the missiles of the Western military-industrial complex, Stepanov emphasized.
De facto, our entire range of military equipment is capable of ensuring the delivery and use of these missiles outside the enemy's area of operation, which provides increased survivability for flight personnel.
Stepanov did not mention the Mi-28 heavy helicopters, which in the West were also listed as "Banderol" carriers. They believe that the missile is connected via a detachable electrical connector.
Through the cable, the helicopter's onboard computer powers the missile's electronics, performs diagnostics, warms up the seeker head, and synchronizes the inertial navigation system. There is no objective confirmation of this yet.
