Specialists from the Ufa plant ODK-UMPO have developed a new turbine blade design. It will help to more effectively cool these crucial elements in the combustion chamber; the documents have been registered in the FIPS database.

It is proposed to place a deflector with holes inside the hollow blade, through which the coolant blows jets onto the walls.

Additionally, transverse ribs are provided on the internal surfaces. They form channels for convective cooling and simultaneously strengthen the structure, as shown in the diagram below.

The main innovation appears on the outside. The blade wall features not one, but at least two rows of holes for film cooling. They are arranged in a staggered pattern — this scheme allows for more efficient distribution of the cooling flow.

In the new design, engineers changed the shape of the ribs — in the necessary places, they literally curve around the holes, without blocking the passage for the cooling air.

As a result, two systems work simultaneously: inside, the walls are intensely cooled by a convective flow, while a protective film is formed on the outside.

ODK-Saturn patented a new combustion chamber design in April of this year with separated annular air supply channels — this reduced pressure losses and improved the temperature field.
