Scammers have started impersonating police officers to gain entry into citizens' apartments under the pretext of a population census or document verification, and to obtain their biometric data. This was reported by Alexey Kurinny, a deputy from the CPRF faction.

Reports of such visitors have been increasingly appearing in the media and social networks. Allegedly, officers in uniform with IDs, which are actually fake, go door-to-door under the guise of preparing for a population census, checking documents, interviewing neighbors, or identifying fraudsters. The goal of the perpetrators is to get people to open the door and let them into the apartment, where they then ask to see passports and provide biometrics.

The deputy noted that police officers would never engage in door-to-door collection of biometrics or preparation for a census. Real law enforcement officers have completely different tasks and a very high workload.

The parliamentarian recommends never opening the door to alleged police officers. In extreme cases, you can ask the visitors through the closed door for their surnames, positions, ranks, precinct number, and badge numbers, and then call the police to verify the information received.

The deputy emphasized the importance of warning elderly relatives about scammers. It is necessary to explain why they should be extremely cautious and not open doors to anyone without the presence of family members.
