New AVTOVAZ engines are designed for at least 220 thousand kilometers of mileage, and in reality, they can "run" twice as much. The details were revealed by Grigory Lychev, head of the powertrain design department at the automaker.

This estimated service life is declared for all three new-generation engines, provided timely maintenance and compliance with manufacturer's recommendations. However, in practice, engines often serve significantly longer. There have even been instances that run 400 thousand and 450 thousand kilometers, Lychev noted.

The new line of gasoline engines was introduced in July. It includes 1.6 and 1.8-liter engines, developed as part of the new Lada Azimut crossover project. Engineers redesigned the units' construction, implementing 37 new or modernized parts. For example, in case of a timing belt break, the pistons do not collide with the valves, which significantly reduces the risk of expensive repairs.

Among the main improvements are a modernized cylinder block with new oil nozzles, a new cylinder head, a redesigned intake module, an updated connecting rod and piston group with reduced friction rings, and new profile camshafts. These changes have increased engine power and torque.

By the end of the year, the new 1.6-liter engine with 120 hp will be installed on Iskra, and the 135-hp 1.8-liter engine will appear on Vesta. In addition, the family includes a new naturally aspirated 1.8-liter engine with 90 hp. It is already being installed on the updated Niva Travel, and now on the Niva Legend (serial production of the updated Legend started in July).
