AvtoVAZ announced the advantages of the new 8-valve 1.8-liter engine for the modernized Lada Niva Travel. The car is equipped with an improved gearbox and updated transmission elements.
AvtoVAZ representatives said that the new engine is 3–30% more economical than the previous 1.7-liter engine, depending on driving style, while the maintenance cost remained the same.
The engine, which is 25 kg lighter, provides higher torque at low and medium speeds and is easy to maintain. The engine is now "non-interference" - if the timing belt breaks, the pistons do not come into contact with the valves.
AvtoVAZ engineers also modernized the 5-speed manual transmission: the gears, reverse gear unit and differential elements were changed. This improved the load-bearing capacity of the components and minimized the risk of gearbox failure.
Sales of the updated Lada Niva Travel with a 1.8-liter engine will begin in late November.
