Russian attack helicopters Mi-28NM and Ka-52M are increasingly using long-range launch tactics, employing the light multi-purpose guided missile "Izdelie 305" (LMUR), writes "Reporter" magazine. This has become a response to the enemy's intensified efforts to counter helicopters. A range of up to 14.5 km allows crews to destroy targets without entering the engagement zone of MANPADS and other air defense systems.

The missile was developed by the Kolomna KBM (KBM, part of Rostec's "High-Precision Systems" holding). The munition weighs 105 kg, and its high-explosive fragmentation warhead weighs 25 kg. The deviation from the target does not exceed two meters.

"Izdelie 305" is equipped with a thermal imaging seeker, integrated with GLONASS, and can operate in several modes: automatic, where the target is acquired before launch, and telecontrol, where the operator corrects the flight based on the transmitted image. An inertial mode is also used when target coordinates are imprecisely known.

According to Rostec, no cases of LMUR control channel suppression by electronic warfare systems have been recorded during its entire combat use. The state corporation calls the missile one of the most successful examples of guided weapons for army aviation, comparing its work to a surgical scalpel: the munition's accuracy allows it to hit even small targets.

The tactic of long-range launches using "Izdelie 305" fundamentally changes the role of helicopters on the battlefield – they cease to be frontline attack aircraft and become remote platforms for high-precision weapons.
