Russia has gained the opportunity to officially develop the An-2 decades after the aircraft effectively “left” the country along with its documentation and production. Roman Gusarov, editor-in-chief of Avia.ru, told “Pervy Tekhnichesky” about this.
The problem was not only in the technical condition of the aircraft. The An-2 was created in Novosibirsk, but later production was transferred to Poland along with all documentation. Now the rights to the An-2 belong to Airbus Military.
Now everything has simply been brought into a normal legal state. And now there is a design bureau that is responsible for this aircraft and has the right to develop it.
The head of Rosaviatsiya, Dmitry Yadrov, explained that obtaining the An-2 certificate finally secures SibNIA's status as the aircraft's developer and opens up the possibility for modernizing the machine, including engine replacement as part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade's program.
Currently, An-2s fly with Soviet ASH-62IR engines. The cost of their repair has increased 10 times in 6 years — from 800 thousand to 8 million rubles.
