The Russian PD-8 engine has not become less reliable due to the fact that it was developed significantly faster than many foreign counterparts. Aviation expert Roman Gusarov told "Pervy Tekhnichesky" about this.

According to him, the accelerated development of the PD-8 was made possible by accumulated technologies, including the groundwork obtained during the creation of the PD-14, as well as modern production methods. The use of 3D printing allows some parts to be manufactured in a matter of days instead of months.

There are no sacrifices in reliability there. On the contrary, the new engine should be more reliable, because in fifth-generation engines, the most complex mechanical control systems are replaced by the electronic FADEC system.

According to Gusarov, final conclusions about the service life and reliability of the PD-8 can only be made after accumulating operational experience.

Alexander Yavkin, chief designer of the Be-200 amphibian, warned that the speed of PD-8 development could lead to power plant failures.

In total, 25 critical technologies were created for the power unit, 17 of them for the first time. The PD-8 passed dozens of complex tests during certification.
